Cheap as Beasts by Jon Wilson is a noir, murder mystery book that is a quick, complex and entertaining read!

The novels' protag is a man named Declan Colette, who is almost hired by a rich brother and sister to prove that their step-mother killed their father...but before anything can come of that, another person in their family is murdered & Colette is hired by the brother, a man named Morgan.

The mystery of the novel is almost like a game of whodunit, which introduces the reader to a series of very interesting and sometimes, slightly suspicious characters. Even characters who are only around for a few pages make an impact and add layers to other characters and the novel's main mystery.

What I liked most about the novel was Colette himself, because the man is damaged and it is obvious in is demeanor, but its not cliche or overbearing - he isn't whinny or melodramatic, but he is believably dark, brooding and often, sharply sarcastic.

Colette is gay, but the romantic aspect of the novel is not front and center and though I would have loved more of a romance edge to the story, the fact that there isn't one, at least not exactly, is extremely powerful and dark and lends itself for their being a continuation to the story...Which I really hope there will be!

Def check it out!
"Dare Buckley has come home—or at least, he’s come back to Palladian, the small town he left as a teenager. There’s one benefit to hitting rock bottom, though: the chance to investigate the mystery of his father’s suicide.

Dare also gets to reacquaint himself with Finn Fowler, whose childhood hero worship ended in uncomfortable silence when Dare moved away. But Finn isn’t the same little kid Dare once protected. He’s grown into an attractive, enigmatic stranger who neither wants nor needs what Dare has to offer.

In fact, Dare soon realizes that Finn’s keeping secrets—his own and the town’s. And he doesn’t seem to care that Dare needs answers. The atmosphere in Palladian, like its namesake river, appears placid, but dark currents churn underneath. When danger closes in, Dare must pit his ingenuity against his heart, and find his way home the hard way."

Home the Hard Way by Z.A. Maxfield was a wonderfully fast paced, addictive and sexy read with a very intriguing and gripping mystery at its core!

The novel kept me reading well into the dark morning hours, flicking my tablet to the next page almost compulsively. The story focuses on Finn, who is gay and out in his very, very small town of Palladian, Oregon, who has many secrets that he would never want anyone finding out about.

Enter Dare: Finn's once sorta best friend though Dare was five or so years older than Finn and they never really "hung out", but Finn was somewhat enamored with Dare and Dare was always oddly compelled by Finn, despite one being 5 and the other 10 at the beginning of their union. For some reason, they were always connected.

Then after a series of tragedies, Dare leaves and doesn't return for 15 years.

What I liked about Finn's & Dare's relationship is that while they were companions at a young age despite the age gap, their relationship was never sexual and the issue of potential molestation was talked about, not just swept under the rug - a couple of characters talked about how they always kept an eye on them to make sure nothing bad was happening between them. They had a strange connection, but it wasn't something that ever became dirty. Dare even talks about being confused about feeling connected to someone so young & how it freaked him out & I liked that. Dare was never sexually attracted to Finn when they were young, but he felt protective of him and he also liked that the fact that Finn idolized him.

When Dare returns to Palladian, a crime happens and as he tries to figure out what really happens, he Finn do grow closer and their relationship does become sexual, in a very, VERY, interesting way.

Finn, out the outside is man taking care of dying aunt and he seems very composed and vanilla, but he really isn't and Dare is a man who has lost his job is on the outside is very straight and stern, but he too, really isn't.

They both want each other and push each other away, making for a very interesting read with very interesting and complex characters who are both messed up and don't know how not to be.

Trust me: this book you want to read!

It was so, so good!

Backstrokes by Dylan Madrid was a nice short novel about a man named Crawford who is trying to find out who he is, who he wants to be and what he wants to do with his life.

The writing was pretty simple, but still very nice with lovely prose. It was descriptive and very atmospheric, if not a bit too slow at times because of the 'mood' of the setting.

Crawford was a solemn character who begins to find out more about himself when he meets Armando and the two, fairly quickly, fall in love. They fall in love after one date and a couple of mention moments of meeting up - I did not believe it, but I accepted it.

The book focuses more on music, so the title is a bit odd, but that's okay.

Overall, Backstrokes was a good, quick, & simple read !

Hot on His Trail by Zavo is a western that is not really a western, though some of the characters speak as if it was so...

The two main characters fall in love and I did not buy into it..

The writing is not bad, its not, Zavo is a good writer, but this story, in my opinion is not entirely well written. The characters actions are somewhat unbelievable and all of the twists and turns the story takes are not that believable either.

There was a lot of sex, which was *mostly* hot, but it did become too overbearing.

At the end of the day, this book was not meant for.
Well-Endowed by Donald Webb is an erotic novel about a hot guy named Matt who has big dick and is completely attractive to everyone and really, really, like REALLY into/amazing as sex!

This was not a book for me. I have read a couple of "erotica" on friends suggestion, but those books has dynamic characters with interesting personalities - Well-Endowed really didn't. It was just about sex. A lot of extreme fantasy-fulfilling sex. Not much plot.

The title has "porn" in the title so I guess that's my fault for expecting something more...

Matt has sex with his friends' Dempsey's dad & I was expecting something less inappropriate, but no, it was pretty extreme and graphic and completely unrealistic...most of the sex.

Here's the thing: this book is not bad and I KNOW that there are a lot of people who would LOVE this book, but I didn't. Its that simple.

Caught in the Crossfire by Juliann Rich is a cute story about a boy named Jonathan who struggles with his love for is fellow camper Ian and his Christian faith. The book is very short and moves along quickly, sometimes too quickly, but Rich is entirely capable of creating characters with personalities that are 3 dimensional and thankfully real.

I thought that the romance between Jonathan and Ian was sweet, albeit quick and I really appreciated Jonathan's turmoil over being a Christian, while having not only romantic feelings for another boy, but sexual ones as well. Rich doesn't just label him Christian and be done with it, the character is completely Christian and prays and has faith and is in love with his religion and is very hot and cold with Ian because of itwhich causes quite a bit of conflict.

Ian was also interesting and has a complex background which bonds the two boys.

The writing is great and Rich does provide some great details, but at times, because the book is under 200 pages, the story felt rushed and jumpy, but it didn't deter me from enjoying it.

It is a great summer read!
And Tristant realizes that Elijah has been hiding something as well.

A secret that just might change everything."

Tristant and Elijah by Jennifer Lavoie was a pretty great read! It was sweet and most definitely a unique high school "gay" story, because while it did deal with coming out, it didn't go through the usual tropes, such as people finding out and drama ensuing or one of the guys being a jock who is terrified of coming out and has girlfriend to cover up the fact he is gay - being honest, I don't mind those tropes if written well, but it was seriously awesome to read a book about gay high school students where that was essentially a nonissue.

There is a slight mystery in this book concerning a journal that I felt was pretty clear from the moment of introduction simply because this novel is "gay fiction", but the end result of the mystery was amazing - it truly could serve as its own story...

Tristant was a great protag and Elijah was a great love interest - and all of the side characters were funny and had their own distinct personalities which I always find refreshing.

The writing was clear and fluid and moved the story along at an even pace.

I really recommend this one!

While I'm not necessarily into books about people selling themselves for money, not because I'm a prude, but because those books tend to be just a way for the author to write about people having sex, often violent and the story be damned, "Anything For A Dollar" manages to avoid this!

There were a couple of a odd stories that I did not like because they didn't feel authentic and I did not connect with the characters, but for 90% of the book, I really enjoyed everything!

The men in this book are people who are in need to for security and they are willing to have sex or fulfill fetishes for this cash, while struggling with their own inner turmoil that have nothing to do with their need for money. This fact most definitely helped make the characters both more complex and more likeable, because while yes, they often had sex with random guys because they liked the sex, they were also trying to "fix" something within themselves and that's what makes for a good read. The anthology and nearly every story had an actual plot, if not, a message of trust, identity, relationship, pain/pleasure and love.

The stories while having actual plots can get graphic and aggressive and strange, but it is to be expected. If this is not your thing, don't read.

I read the book in about three hours, so buy it and spend a rainy afternoon with it! Its worth the read!

I loved this book!

Action packed, dangerous, sexy, funny and dramatic!

Kieran was a witty and realistic character whose ability to refract light might seem silly to the max, but because of Burgoines' writing skill, it made for not only a pretty rad power, but a terrific usage in the story, and a lot of funny moments!

Wyatt Jackson was creepy as hell! I mean, seriously. I loved this aspect of the book and its clear allusion to Westboro Baptist. The surprise involving Stigmatic Jack, while I did see coming, was still, pretty awesome!

I loved Kierans' relationship with Karen and Miracle Woman and his brother and found them all to be sweet and believable. I liked that they all had their own type of humor too.

Sebastian was a good love interest and totally hot, but I did not like him completely. He was bit too strange.. There was a crazy dire and dangerous moment involving ropes and a van and Sebastian was horny which completely bugged me! He was at times too possessive and aggressive, but I guess(??) that's what Kieran likes/liked... Personally, I was hoping for something with the cop. He was cute and sweet and seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. Maybe in the next book...

... Cus honestly, I can see this becoming a series in lieu of Sookie Stackhouse, which is what Light somewhat reminded me of. And if Sookie can have sex with everyone, why cant Kieran too!!! ;~)))

Highly Recommend!

Unfortunately I did not love this book, though I did like it! Strange Angels by Andrea Speed was strange, but not in the best way, but again, it was good. Bren and Dar are assumingly in love, but I never really felt that or bought it. They had no chemistry and no real romantic scenes together, which I was put off by. I wanted a lot more romance between Bren and his god, but it did not happen. The book mainly focused on Bren going to different worlds on the run as they try to get rid of a bunch of crazed gods who want Bren dead. The book is about this and Bren learning to get abilities under control.

The book has loads of action which was awesome and some interesting and strange characters and good humor, but the book felt more like two friends who liked each other but where too afraid to admit rather than an actual couple and that was frustrating! I wanted more angst to go with the action, but no.. hopefully a sequel will provide this!

I do say, however, you should check it out! Its fun!

In Such Dark Places by Joseph Caldwell, we are introduced to Eugene who is pretty messed up, to be honest. He is gay and Catholic and pretty tortured, which makes for a compelling and at times a both frustrating character and read, but I greatly enjoyed this book for its frank honesty.

The writing is poignant and direct and clean and the prose is truly lovely and lively, despite the fact how moody and lonely Eugene is and therefore the story.

This book is about the near trenches of a depressed man and his near repressed "gay lifestyle" with no true happy ending .. or beginning or middle, just life. I loved it, but if you want something more
hopeful, this is not for you!
"Mary Renault’s landmark novel about a wounded soldier who returns from

After being wounded at Dunkirk in World War II, Laurie Odell is sent

This novel has been called one of the foundation stones of gay literary
fiction, ranking alongside James Baldwin’s Giovanni’s Room and Gore
Vidal’s The City and the Pillar. Celebrated for its literary brilliance
and sincere depiction of complex human emotions, The Charioteer is a
stirring and beautifully rendered portrayal of love."

The Charioteer is a dreamy, beautiful novel that says so much when it doesn’t say anything. The queer factor of the book is obvious and evident and of course, prominent, but the issue of being ‘gay’ and being labeled as such not only during the time period in which the novel is set, but the time in which Renault’s novel is published, has to be addressed by other means and other words in order for the characters to thrive and the novel to see the light of publication. Renault’s craftsmanship of writing allows her to effortlessly do this in a way that brings the story to a richer and more lavish arena. Some things may go over a readers head, but if you allow yourself to reread or to perhaps read slower and with more care, you will see the artistry in Renaults words choices and characters actions, and plot and prose and everything! Truly, a splendid novel! Romance, society, pressure, the human psyche, homosexuality, sexuality, war, right and wrong and so much more are explored and beautified and creates a wonderful, wonderfully sad and beautiful novel!

While a tad short, The Crimson Outlaw tells the story of Mihai and Vali and their eventual run into each other that leads to love.

Mihai is the Crimson Outlaw who Vali is captured by and though they are on opposite sides, Vali eventually see honor and goodness in Mihai while Mihai eventually sees that Vali is not a spoiled brat, but is in fact very brave.

Mihai is was knight who wants justice and he does whatever he needs to get that justice against Vali's evil and abusive father. Vali's father is a bad man, but Vali is innocent and too kind of a soul to fully grasp the evil in his father, but once he realizes that his nice little world is not so nice, he joins Mihai to set things right.

Mihai and Vali's romance while nice and enjoyable was somewhat too fast, but I guess that was because the length of the book. I felt the book could have used about 130 more pages or so, to fully flesh out the world and the characters and make me feel more invested in the world and their lives.

That being said, The Crimson Outlaw was good read that I would not mind seeing a sequel to and I def recommend other people checking it out!
And as horrifying rumors spread from the front lines and American soldiers turn their sights on the SS for vengeance, John may be Hagen’s only hope for survival."

Unhinge the Universe is a realistic WWII drama that hits the marks successfully and splendidly, with its drama, angst, danger, and romance!

I really enjoyed it!

Hagen and John were interesting and complex characters with flaws and strengths and I really liked that about them; they weren't fighting on their sides because it was war and they were drafted, they were fighting because they believed in what they were fighting for which made their struggles and their eventual love for one another much more authentic.

Hagen was fighting for the side he believed was right, Nazis Germany.. He, like the other German soldiers were told that the Americans were evil and sadistic and loved torturing people so he had a hatred for the Allies and wanted to do everything he could to take them down, especially for his brother.. Hagen was sweet and def the more resistant of the two lovers and reading his interactions with John were very nice, as one moment he believed in them and the next, doubted them completely.

John was the more experienced of the two men, specifically sexually, as in he was fully accepting of orientation and in fact had a male lover, that well ... you will have to read to see. I did not know how the authors were going to pull that bit off, but they did it organically and nicely. John cared for Hagen a great deal and put his life and career in jeopardy in order to ensure Hagen's survival, which I really admired about him.

Watching the love build between the two men was very wonderful, especially under the highly extreme and deadly circumstances. The whole will they die, will one die, will they end up together created a great and angst riddled read!

Thoroughly enjoyed & Highly recommend!
"In the seventeenth century, the English Revolution is under way. The nation, seething with religious and political discontent, has erupted into violence and terror. Jacob Cullen and his fellow soldiers dream of rebuilding their lives when the fighting is over. But the shattering events of war will overtake them.

A darkly erotic tale of passion and obsession, As Meat Loves Salt is a gripping portrait of England beset by war. It is also a moving portrait of a man on the brink of madness.

Hailed as a masterpiece, this is a first novel by a most original new voice in fiction."

(Old Read)

One of the most thrilling, mesmerizing and beautiful stories I have read. The
build up to Ferris & Jacob's affair was captivating and addictive and the
pain, love and wickedness these two partake in was deepily saddening.

It is not
a story about love torn apart by society, but rather one about love beaten dead
into the ground by one's own madness and inner demons. I wanted them to have
love despite EVERYTHING and in the end, I was fullfilled as a reader, but not in
the way I wanted... the lush writing is the guilty party on that front. If you
are thinking about reading this book, then you must, you really must. You will
not regret it. When its beautiful, its heartwarming, when its loving, you fall
in love and when its scary & sad, you just might shed more then a tear - you
will scream at the characters and find yourself of the same mind.

Easily, one of
my favorite books of all time.

This book is phenomenal.
"World Wrestling Entertainment Superstar Darren Young surprised a TMZ cameraman when he came out as gay during an impromptu interview at Los Angeles International Airport.

A videographer stopped Young while he was getting his bags at LAX Wednesday and asked the 33-year-old if he thinks a gay wrestler could be successful within the WWE organization.

"Absolutely," Young said, laughing. "Look at me. I'm a WWE Superstar and, to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay, and I'm happy. Very happy."

The cameraman was stunned and told Young he had no idea, to which the wrestler said he doesn't think his sexuality should matter.

"I guess if you want to call it 'coming out,' I really don't know what to say it is," he said. "I'm just letting you know that I'm happy [with] who I am, I'm comfortable with myself, and I'm happy to be living the dream ... Some people might not like it. Some people will like it. I'm here to please myself. I'm here to be happy ... "My name is Etan, and I am Adorned.

A living piece of art, I exist to please the divine rulers of Kered. With
nowhere to turn after my father died, I tried my luck in the capital city.
Little did I know how quickly I would be robbed, beaten and forced to sell
myself into servitude. But I was lucky enough to gain the attention of Roberd
Tallisk, an irascible but intriguing tattoo artist who offered to mark me with
enchanted ink for the enjoyment of the nobles. I was given a chance to better my
station in life, and I could not refuse.

But the divine rulers want not only the art but the body that bears it. In
their company I can rise above the dregs of society and experience a life most
only dream of, at the cost of suffering their every desire as a pawn in games of
lavish intrigue. Their attention is flattering, but I find I'd rather have
Tallisk's.

Caught between factions, I learn that a revolution is brewing, one that could
ruin Kered—and Roberd and myself along with it…"

What a wonderful surprise!

The Adorned by John Tristan was a completely thought out and realized novel with a rich and lush world, with brilliant writing and characters.

The world that John Tristan has created is realistic and is rich in characters and by the skill of the authors writing. The imagery of the tattoos and the creation process is precise but not too detailed as to make it clinical. There is an "awe" aspect to the whole thing, to how the Adorned are well, adorned, in their beautiful tats to become literal moving artwork. The world has gods but even though the fanatical exist nothing ever felt forced or out of place, it made sense and was frankly just plain awesome.

I really enjoyed what Tristan was able to do in regards to making the Adorned revered objects but sexual ones as well. There was a nice balance to it, tho at times the sexual expectations were a little off putting - not story or writing wise but because of the fact that there were characters who thought they could have whatever they wanted just because they could afford it in one way or another. Etan was a pretty great narrator; he was naive/inexperienced (though often way too submissive, he said "thank you" waaaay too often for my taste, in moments that made him seem like a little lost doe...)enough that so as he learned stuff about his world, it was a great mechanism for the reader to learn as well.

The buildup to Etan and Roberds relationship was slow but so worth it! I really liked Roberd and loved reading about his reluctance to give Etan up to clients as he was trying deny his feelings for him. So good. The side characters are just as great and have their own reasonings and motives and personalities which is always a major bonus.

I really liked this book and cannot wait for more in the series and more from the author! What an ingenious world Tristan has created.
"Dr. Wyatt Case is never happier than when he’s walking the halls of his history
museum. Playing wingman for his best friend at Gravedigger’s Tavern throws him
way out of his comfort zone, but not as much as the eccentric man behind the

quirky, and elbow deep in a Gaslight lifestyle that weaves history into everyday

end more than just Wyatt and Ash’s fragile relationship—it might also end their
lives."

The world of The Gravedigger's Brawl by Abigail Roux, was rich, dark and complex! The writing was clean and very quick and moved the story foward at a very organic pace. Ash and Wyatt were very cute together and I enjoyed reading about them and how their personalities complemented one another, it was great.

Ash was very, very wicked and charming and I could compeletly understand want Wyatt saw in him. He was awesome! Wyatt was more refrained of the two and was adorable. I loved how they loved each other and worked on the problems in their relationship no matter what.

The plot, the wonderful ghost story and the romance all came together to great fantastic world that I
would love to explore again!!

I loved it!

While I wanted more, the promise of the sequels made up for any and all disappointments concerning the books length and lack of romantic storyline. Don't get me wrong, there was LOTS of romance, with LOTS of shockingly great character and world development, but the book was too short for me. I like to commit to long-ish novels, so novellas really aren't my thing, but Knox is so talented that the book's length was not a problem at the end of the day.

Mason and Frost are cute and endearing and sorta perfect for each other even though they just met. It's like the instachemistry that Sherlock and Watson have in BBC's SHERLOCK with Benedict Cumberbitch--er, Cumberbatch, and where the romantic undertones are only playful jabs in SHERLOCK, in Agamemnon Frost and the House of Death, there are no playful suggestions, just full on hot chemistry and wild on the wind romance - but no the cheesy kind.

There are aliens, but it makes so much sense! It is not silly or dumb, but just the perfect amount of camp! This world is extremely real and wonderful.

While the book does have romance and sexual m/m situations, the sextimes are not story fillers, but are rather simply organic and very - - fun...

The action is intense, the aliens are crazy and complex, the characters, even the brief side characters, are 3-D and brilliant.

Buy, read and love!!

This book is a win!

Cannot wait for the sequel.
